"Her name was Yuko, a name which meant "affectionate child". In the nineteen years of her life as a merchant's daughter, she was the subject of simultaneous adoration and envy among the people in her hometown. No other had hair as silky-soft, skin as delicate and spotless, or a face as beautiful. What stifled what could have been general dislike was one simple fact: she was the kindest and most generous soul of the village. She would greet people with a smile and a pleasant demeanor, from friends to newcomers and children to the elderly, and made it her business to never hold any ill will towards anyone. (...)"
